Qualifying Requirements for 2020 World Championships

Rider Qualification Guidelines

2020 USTPA World Championship Series Finals

Amarillo, Texas

October 25-31, 2020

1. QUALIFYING PERIOD

September 30, 2019 through (and including) October 11, 2020.

2. MINIMUM SHOW & RIDE REQUIREMENTS (see #3 below for Single Class Only Qualifying)

a) Minimum Show Requirement. To qualify to ride any available Team Penning or Ranch Sorting class at the 2020 World Championship Show, riders must ride a minimum of six (6) total rides in Team Penning, Ranch Sorting or a combination of both at each of THREE (3) separate Shows during the Qualifying Period.

b) Team Penning Minimum Ride Requirement. To qualify to ride any available Team Penning class at the 2020 World Championship Show, riders must:

  1. Meet the Minimum Show Requirement, and
  2. Ride a minimum of EIGHTEEN (18) total Team Penning rides during the Qualifying Period at all eligible shows combined.

c) Ranch Sorting Minimum Ride Requirement. To qualify to ride any available Ranch Sorting class at the 2020 World Championship Show, riders must:

  1. Meet the Minimum Show Requirement, and
  2. Ride a minimum of TWELVE (12) total Ranch Sorting rides during the Qualifying Period at all eligible shows combined.

Important Note: The Minimum Ride Requirements for Team Penning and Ranch Sorting are cumulative, and may be achieved in any combination at any show or shows throughout the Qualifying Period. The only minimum ride requirement at a single show is six (6), but there is no minimum number of Team Penning or Ranch Sorting rides that must be met at a single show. As long as the rider has entered the minimum six (6) rides in at least THREE (3) shows, and a combined total of at least EIGHTEEN (18) Team Penning Rides and TWELVE (12) Ranch Sorting rides during the Qualifying Period, that rider will be fully qualified in both Team Penning and Ranch Sorting. Riders that want to qualify to ride any Team Penning class at Finals, but not Ranch Sorting, must only meet the Team Penning Minimum Ride Requirement (and vice-versa for Ranch Sorting).

3. SINGLE CLASS QUALIFYING

a) Minimum Show Requirement. To qualify to ride only a single Team Penning and/or Ranch Sorting class at the 2020 World Championship Show, riders must ride a minimum of four (4) total rides in Team Penning, Ranch Sorting or a combination of both at each of THREE (3) separate Shows during the Qualifying Period.

b) Single Team Penning Class Minimum Ride Requirement. To qualify to ride in a single specific Team Penning class at the 2020 World Championship Show, riders must:

  1. Meet the Minimum Show Requirement for Single Class Qualifying, and
  2. Ride a minimum of TWELVE (12) total Team Penning rides in the specific class being qualified during the Qualifying Period at all eligible shows combined.

c) Ranch Sorting Minimum Ride Requirement. To qualify to ride in a single specific Ranch Sorting class at the 2020 World Championship Show, riders must:

  1. Meet the Minimum Show Requirement for Single Class Qualifying, and
  2. Ride a minimum of TWELVE (12) total Ranch Sorting rides during the Qualifying Period at all eligible shows combined.

In the event one or more of the qualifying USTPA Shows does not offer the specific-number Team Penning and/or Ranch Sorting class at that show, the rider may satisfy the qualifying requirement by riding any higher number class, the minimum number of rides described above.

As an example, and for the purpose of additional clarification, if a rider plans to ride in the #5 Team Penning class and the #3 Ranch Sorting class at the 2020 World Championship Show, that rider must first meet the Single Class Minimum Show Qualifying Requirement, and then have at least TWELVE (12) total Team Penning rides in the #5 or higher numbered Team Penning class, and at least TWELVE (12) total Ranch Sorting rides in the #3 or higher numbered Ranch Sorting class during the Qualifying Period.

4. QUALIFYING SHOWS

Up to Two (2) USTPA World Championship Series (National) shows and any other USTPA Sanctioned Show may be used in any combination to satisfy the Minimum Show Requirements. Two (2) Co-Sanctioned Shows may be applied for each required Show in Ranch Sorting and/or Team Penning, up to a maximum of Two (2) Co-Sanctioned Shows to off-set one of the THREE (3) required Shows.

Please remember that any Regional Finals and of course the World Championship Show are not qualifying shows for the purpose of satisfying the Minimum Show Requirement.

5. QUALIFYING WITHOUT ADDED MONEY

Due to the substantial interruption caused by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the USTPA is allowing any rider that is unable to meet the show and ride requirements detailed above the opportunity to compete in the 2020 USTPA World Championship Series Finals, but without being eligible to compete for the Added Money.

To qualify to ride any available Team Penning or Ranch Sorting class at the 2020 USTPA World Championship Series Finals, but NOT be eligible for the Added Money, the Minimum Show and Ride Requirements are waived in their entirety. Competitors entering the 2020 USTPA World Championship Series Finals will be eligible for the standard payout, including any fast-go money, but will not be eligible for Added Money. Any winning team that includes team members that qualify under this waiver will have the added money award that would have been paid to the non-qualified rider paid evenly to the remaining qualified riders. In the event there are no qualified riders (riders that qualified under this waiver) on a winning team, the added money that would have been paid to that team will be added back to the total added money that is split between the remaining winning teams.
