USTPA Scholarship Program

The United States Team Penning Association (USTPA) offers a scholarship program for members who are graduating high school seniors continuing their education at accredited colleges.

Scholarship Description The USTPA has established a Scholarship Program designed for eligible graduating high school seniors, and current college students who are members of the USTPA. Scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 and are distributed in two stipends (one per semester). Scholarship recipients must successfully complete a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 the first semester in order to receive the second half of the stipend. College registration receipts must be presented to the USTPA National Office as scheduled below. Scholarship stipends will be sent directly to the college unless a request, in writing, is sent to the USTPA office to send to student’s home.

Application Process

Applications for USTPA Scholarships are available online at www.USTPA.com. All applications are due to the Regional Director of the applicant’s home region by March 1st of each year. Regional Directors will review all applications and submit their recommended applicants to the Executive Board by April 1st of each year. Non – recommended applicants will be notified by the Regional Director within 45 days of submission if not recommended to the Executive Committee for Scholarship approval. The Executive Committee will then review all regionally recommended applications and award up to 5 new applicant scholarships by May 1st of each year. Repeat applicants will still be considered for another scholarship. Applicants will then be notified by the national office of the Executive Committee’s decision regarding their application by June1st.

Evaluation Considerations

The USTPA scholarship program is intended to award tuition assistance to deserving students who have actively supported their region and positively contributed to the growth and success of the USTPA as participants. The Student must be a current and active USTPA Member, in good standing. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have been actively involved with the USTPA and their region as volunteer leaders, workers, helpers, interns, organizers or by making any other kind of voluntary contribution in the form of action or deed. In addition, the USTPA is especially concerned scholarship recipients have displayed a sincere interest in the penning and sorting sports and have a history of good sportsmanship and horsemanship. The ideal scholarship candidate would be a graduating High School senior, or current college student with a passion for penning and sorting who has displayed leadership skills as a volunteer within their USTPA region and possesses the attributes of being a good student, horseperson and role model for younger youth.
